Leave it all up to Him

We should not seek to avenge anything someone has done to us. Sometimes, we tend to seek revenge because that's what feels most instantly gratifying. But God commands us to leave it up to him.

"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord." (Lev. 19:18, NIV)

He also says don't hold anyone maliciously in your heart. Even if you don't act on the urge to seek revenge against someone who wronged you. You should also not think of that person with ill thoughts.

Holding a grudge against people we come across taints our hearts. Overtime we become embittered. Regard everyone with love and treat everyone as you would yourself. Imagine if we hold on to a little bit of hate for each person that hurts us; the anger, the hate and the pain will eventually consume us. Therefore it is to our benefit to let it all go and let God deal with it.

This is easier said than done. But if we continuously seek God's favor... if we continuously seek to live life the way He calls us to, He will give us the strength and courage to let go of the inner most pains we feel.

God also commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Next time someone does something wrong to you, think of this... We often wrong ourselves, but soon we forgive ourselves for those things we did wrong to ourselves. Our mistakes don't lessen the love we have for ourselves. So, think of our demons and the things that are wrong with us. The bad things in ourselves that we find excuses for. Look at your brother and sister through those lenses and seek God for guidance. You will eventually find peace and be able to forgive. Forgiveness is a process that requires effort and prayer.

On the same note, we should know that people come in and out of our lives. Some relationships are not meant to last forever. If you are growing in separate directions as your neighbor, part ways peacefully and wish each other well. There's no reason to keep toxic relationship in our lives. Remember Proverbs 4:23:

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Prov 4:23, NIV)
